You know what? Money does grow on trees. And that is this game about…
In this game you play as William, a hardworking but unappreciated gardener who has just inherited an estate from his family. Each level will find you taking care of the garden of the estate, specifically the trees. William isn’t really the type that focuses more on the monetary side of things, but rather inspired to win the love of his previous Master’s daughter, Elizabeth. You have to help him polish things up by earning him some money, decorating his estate and obviously, giving him a hand on all his gardening works.
A basic level’s first focus is for you to double-click on leaves that fall from the sky to plant them (an interesting way to garden indeed). You can also drag and drop the leaves onto the tree, but I believe this is unnecessarily time-consuming. As you acquire leaves your plants will begin to grow and flourish, eventually sprouting fruit that you must collect to get money.
If you pick an orange that is healthy and ripe straight from the tree, you’ll score a medium amount. If you can manage to catch fruit that is falling from the tree, you’ll be rewarded with the highest pay for your efforts (however if you can’t manage to save the fallen citrus piece before it hits the ground, you’ll get less money than if you had picked it straight from the tree).
Finally, you are of course awarded the smallest sum of dinero for fruit that is puny when picked.
In this dream world, money also falls from the sky, so be sure to keep an eye out for flying dollars to click on. Each one you grab will sprout bushels of bucks on the tree you’re tending, which can in turn be harvested just like the fruit that you’re growing.
Another thing you have to be aware of in this game are the temperature meters. This isn’t a greenhouse you’re working in, it’s the fresh outdoors, so keep an eye on both the blue and red gages to optimize your garden. An increasing red meter means you will need to utilize the sprinkler
before your tree dries out, which could cost you some precious mooh-lah!
Just like in real life, it is possible to overwater your plants, though, especially if the level decides to make it rain, so don’t go overboard with the water. This is what the blue gage indicates.
Meet the money goal by gathering enough healthy fruit and/or cash bundles to pass the level and move on.
Money Tree is nicely done with its cute and colorful graphics, possibly targeting the feminine casual gaming audience. The music is very peaceful too and suits well to the game’s overall ambience. In fact, you just gotta love how you can freely customize William’s garden with gazebos, fountains and other garden designs to help you in efficiently winning Elizabeth’s heart. All in all, Money Tree is really one fun Time Management game.
